Daintree..Rainforest

<Kian>
We drove to the Daintree Rainforest.  To get there we needed to take our car on a ferry over the Daintree river.

The Daintree Rainforest is older than the Amazon Rainforest.
This is what the roads are like.
There are cassowaries around and they sometimes cross the road.  We tried to spot one in the wild.
We went to the Daintree Discovery Centre and did a walking tour through the rainforest and even up into the tree canopy.  We listened to a recording to tell us about the rainforest.

There were lots of rainforest plants.

From the walkway we could look down on the floor of the rainforest.

On the floor we could see cassowary plums (the blue purple egg in the photo).  These are a favourite of the cassowaries and they swallow them whole, but they are poisonous to humans.
They are pretty big
We climbed to the top of a 5 storey tower to look over the tops of the trees.
Up high the rainforest is a mess, with all the plants growing over the top of each other.

We looked for a cassowary, but didn't see one.  They can run up to 50km/hour so I guess they can travel a long way in one day.
This is a model of a female cassowary - pretty big isn't it!
