Mount Isa..The Show

<Zeke>
We went to Mount Isa to go to the Mount Isa show and mini rodeo.

They had rides and things like a normal show but we went to see the things that we can't see in the city.

We went to watch bronco branding.

<Mum>
The bronco branding fence was used on stations before they had temporary stock yards.  They caught the cows one at a time and used the small piece of fence to trap them and brand them.  It must have been quite intense work, with many other stockmen required to keep the mob rounded up while each cow is lassoed and branded.
Aboriginal stockmen are typically very good at this.

Bronco Branding is now a sport where they need to catch and brand (only using paint) 3 cows in the shortest time.

<Asha>
This is called Bronco Branding.
It was so funny.  They had to catch the cows with a lasso and paint them.
The stockmen caught the cows.

This boy painted some of the cows.

 A good stockmen rides a horse not rides a cow.
(Asha said this because she knew we had come to Mount Isa to watch people riding cows in the rodeo. She hadn't yet seen bull riding but she thought the stockmen were pretty good with their lassoes on their horses and they would do much better at this when riding horses than when riding cows)!

We saw some pigs racing.
<Rémi>

This is something that we don’t see often in the city!

I got my face painted.
