The Great Sea of the Dinosaur Age

<Kian>
We drove to Richmond in the middle of Queensland.
The road was small and cars have to get off the road for big trucks...

and we had to watch out for cows
Richmond wasn’t always on the land, it was once an island ocean about 60m deep (in the dinosaur age).

The prehistoric ocean contained creatures like 7 gilled sharks (7m long), sea reptiles called kronosauraus (up to 15m long).
Many fossils of these reptiles have been found in this area and Richmond has a centre for visitors to see the fossils and the work on finding new fossils.
Dad Asha & I went to the dinosaur fossil centre, Kronosauraus Korner.

This is a scale (1:1) model of Kronosauraus.
<Asha>
Kronosauraus was a bit like a crocodile but with fins and pretty big!

<Kian>
This is a 4.25m pliosaur fossil discovered in 1989.  It is 100 million years old.
 This is a model (1:1) of the pliosaur and other fossils of the same creature.

Did you know?
Saur means lizard in Greek
Dinosaur means terrible lizard in Greek

We bought some new stickers for our caravan!
And we fed some whistling kites in the caravan park.

At the fuel station we even saw Mack!
